We have a emergency shut off valve to install on a gas fired heater (24 VDC Solenoid). The gas supply piping has cathodic protection which prevents us from having a ground (per the cathodic protection contractor). We must use explosion proof conduit on this equipment according to section 501. We are looking for recommendations to isolate the explosion proof conduit from the piping that is protected by cathodic means.

Thank You

Since electrical equipment must have grounding, why not have the gas supply line installer install isolating fittings (on their piping) on both side of the gas valve you are installing?

Maybe I should have provided more details. The pipe is 14" diameter and underground. Thanks for the reply.

seal-off the EP piping run, run HD cord to the solenoid, do not connect the ground wire at the solenoid.
