This question was posted concerning 2008 NEC but did not get an exact answer so pardon but I need to ask again
A thermostat circuit in a single-family dwelling is rated as Class 2 power limited operating at 24v. A listed cable less than 1/4 : in diameter permitted for this application but not permitted to be installed in a commercial building without raceway protection is type:
CL2 CL3 CL2P-CL CL2R or CL2X
