Class A fire alarm Ckts

I understand that the code reads that you can bring down a drop of just one conduit or whip with all 4 conductors of a class A ckt if it is less than 10 feet. I am looking at a job that has one detector up a stairwell. I would like to set a Juction box and then just have one conduit going to the detector. However, its more than 10 feet from the J box. This is my question: How far apart does the code say the two conduits that supply the class A ckt need to stay apart. Can I run both conduits together, side by side up the stairwell location until I get to a point that is within 10 feet of the detector and then have one conduit feed? If somebody wanted to, they could take out both conduits with one fail swoop since they are so close. Thanks for the reply

You'll find that NFPA 72-2002 6.4.2.2.2 permits single conduit/raceway drops to individual devices or appliances. For that matter you can have a single conduit/raceway drop to multiple devices or appliances installed within a single room not exceeding 1000 ft^2 in area.
When you do place the outgoing and return conductors in separate raceway, the code just says that the raceway shall be "routed separately". It is usually the project specifications (at least mine do), that indicate the required distance if any, between these outgoing and return raceways.

Ron,
You did not mention anything about a 10' distance requirement? I guess I am a little lost. We have always gone by that rule.

Copper,
It seemed that you knew about that one already.
In any case from that same article:
The outgoing and return (redundant) circuit conductors shall be permitted to be run in the same cable assembly, enclosure, or raceway for a distance not to exceed 10 ft where the outgoing and return conductors enter or exit the initiating device, notification appliance, or control unit enclosures.
