Article 502 refers to dusttight boxes and fittings. Are "L", "C" or "T" type fittings with gasketed covers that are used for rigid steel or IMC conduit considered dusttight.

I think you will have to check the specific listing of the particular fitting. Some may be, others may not.

Re: Class II, Division 1 & 2

NEMA Type 3,3S, 5,12,12K, or 13 enclosures are "Dusttight." Any box or conduit body marked with one of those types (or the words "Dusttight)complies with the relevant parts of 502.4(A) and (B).

As a side note, 502.4(A)(1)(d) [a Division 1 application] specifies that the enclosures be "identified," not necessarily "listed," for Class II. There a several issues involved, primarily that no field application provides a path for dust ingress and, if appropriate, the installation has a properly selected "T" rating.

The general Class II philosophy is the opposite of Class I. Class I, recognizes there is no way to completely prevent the ingress of gases, so it requires the equipment to be "proof" against an internal ignition. Class II, recognizes that the ingress may be reasonably prevented, so the primary concern is to prevent ignitions of surface collected materials. These are only generalities. There are exceptions, but this is usually where proper analysis begins.
