A co-worker is telling me the splices for the class II wiring for the motion sensors we are installing need to be in a box? Am I missing something in the code? He said he got flagged twice for this in the past and had to go back and install boxes both at the ceiling mounted motion sensor and at the 24v power pack/relay. The motion sensors instructions don't require a box.

Is he talking about a plenum?

So I guess theres not a Code reference that simply states "A junction box is not required for Class 2 splices". I need something to rub it in his face with.

Ask him to show you in the code where a box is required for Class 2 splices.

I did and he couldn't remember  He said the two times he was flagged, one was a local inspector and the other was a state inspector. I just don't believe him.

There is no code requirement for class 2 circuits to be spliced in a box. Did you read 725.3 as Chris pointed out? That code section states that only those sections of Article 300 referenced in Article 725 shall apply to class 1, 2 and 3 circuits. 300.15 is not referenced for class 2 wiring methods.
