Can someone please explain this? My item has to conform to Class 1 Div2.
500.2 Article 500 Hazardous (Classified) Locations, Classes I, II, and III, Divisions 1 and 2
Hermetically Sealed. Equipment sealed against the entrance of an external atmosphere where the seal is made by
fusion, for example, soldering, brazing, welding, or the fusion of glass to metal.
Informational Note: For further information, see ANSI/ISA-12.12.01-2007, Nonincendive Electrical Equipment for
Use in Class I and II, Division 2, and Class III, Division 1 and 2 Hazardous (Classified) Locations.
I have a laminate heater sealed in a stainless vessel that is welded. (not very big). We have a 1.5" NPT bulkhead fitting on it with a threaded cap. The cap has a potted receptacle in it for an electrical cable (turck). How strict is 'hermetic sealing' ?? I looked it up and there a a lot of variations to the acceptable testing. We cant weld this up as it would become permanently unserviceable.
