Hi,
I live in the bay area ( oakland, CA ). I was wondering if anyone was aware of any continuing education programs/ code study courses in the area. I am a contractor who is interested in sharpening my skills ( and my employees )

Thanks,
Kenny

I just glanced at their web page which says, "CCTC is please to announce our new Continuing Education (CE) classes for certified journeymen who need to complete their 32 hour requirements to renew their state certification."

I think they have classes in Hayward and Concord in the
East Bay. (I work in the San Jose area).

To Renew or Not thats the question

To Renew or Not thats the question

I'm half tempted to NOT renew mine at all - do you think anyone else is? Most people don't have one in the first place....

I can't remember the cost of the original test but I think it is much less than the cost of the classes required to get the required 32 units to renew. It's actually less cost to just take the test again when your card runs out. Having said that I am taking the review classes and since I waited until the final year I have to take all 32 in one year at $25.00 per unit. I will say the classes I have taken so far have been presented well and it never hurts to review. What I think will happen in the near future is the Bonding Companies and Liability Insurenace Compainies will require the contractor to furnish a list of the card numbers for everyone working at his/her company.

Been hearing that for nearly ten years now.....

My card expired 6-28-06  (thats what it really says on it) Or is that 08, or 09? Need to find that out.... For those who got it early they just kept shifting the date back rather than giving you a new card.....

I'm on page 343.....

I've had it for roughly 5 years, without having to renew and it means nothing!

I can relate, but sooner or later enforcement will come. Most likely since the state only wants the money; and the insurance company would like nothing better than to turn down a claim from an employer because the person doing the work was unlicensed, the enforcement will be through the employers insurance carrier. I heard rumors that this has started to happen in the San Diego area but nothing for sure.
