We are doing an installation for a 4mmBTU/hour fire tube (nartual gas) boiler. The engineer claims we need seal fittings at all of the electrical devices (switches vavles, etc...). I have never seen seal fittings anywhere around industrial boilers. Does anyone know the how the code addresses this? thank-you

I dont know that is what I am asking. The engineer says we need seals, but I have never herd of any code which says we do. Does anyone know what code would address the electrical classification for a boiler gas train.

Has the area classification been "properly documented" as required by NEC Section 500.4(A)? Note, this doesn't necessarily mean the classification is correct, just that the area classification has been evaluated and documented.

The engineer does not need a code if he is going over and above the code. The code is a minimum.
If the electrical area classification were ?properly documented,? depending on the specifics ??of the electrical devices (switches vavles[sic], etc...),? I might agree seals were required whether or not they were specifically shown on the original design. Or, if the original design specifically called out seals, I?d agree they need to be installed whether or not the location was ?properly classified.? However, in the absence of proper electrical area classification documentation [Section 500.4(A)], seals cannot be demanded as a Code requirement, which appears to be what the OP implies.

Note: I haven?t yet said seals are required or not in my opinion, I?ve simply asked what the basis for requiring them was.
