I have been back and forth on this issue and have only came up with this.

5' around the entire tank to be class I div. I wiring. Then 3' up from ground to 25' in diameter of tank to be class I div. I wiring.

None of which sounds right (because it is kerosene) but I need to prove other.

Thanks ahead of time for your help...

Indoor or outdoor storage? Table 515.3 should answer your questions. What standard was used to classifiy the location? Art 500 alone is inadequate.

Kerosene is a Class I, Flammable liquid. It will result in a Class I, Group D, T3 location. Division 1 or 2, as applicable, will depend on the Table; however, if you have Division 1, you will also have Division 2 surrounding it.

I am shame-faced :ashamed1: I misread NFPA 497. It lists kerosene's flashpoint as 72C (not F) so it's a combustible (not flammable) liguid. As such, except in extremely unusual circumstances, it wouldn't require classifying a location at all.

I thank Don (don_resqcapt19) for his gentle reminder.
