Classified equipment in an unclassified area

Our company does has a large number of rental equipment that uses both C1D1 enclosures and standard (NEMA 4X). At times equipment becomes limited and we find ourselves having to install a C1D1 enclosure in an unclassified area. Here is where my question comes in; do you need to install C1D1 connectors on the cables/conduit when you install the C1D1 enclosure in the unclassified area and what regulation governs this requirement?

Unless installed in a classified location, the connectors are not required to be classified rated. However, be aware not all Class I rated enclosures are also rated for outdoor locations. Most, but not all, are.
