classified location

Is a residential septic tank a classified location? This is a question regarding lift stations and J box locations in the tank. If asi is it a class 1 div. 1?

"classifying" an area is an engineering function, so the exact conditions would have to be taken into account by an engineer. None of the single family or duplex units I have seen have been classified.
With that in mind, all of the residential systems I have seen either have a cable long enough to reach the control panel, or are cord & plug units.
I have not encountered one where a J Box was needed in the pit and would discourage putting one there both from an environmental and servicing standpoint.
What wiring method do your pumps/controls have ?
