Clearance around electrical control box on a frame

Looking at NFPA79 11.5.1.3 spaces around a control enclosure; is this section saying that I can recess my enclosure up to 6" on my frame so that the pushbuttons & lights do not extend outside of the frame footprint? I don't see this addressed in the NFPA70.

NFPA 70 is not a machine design Code like NFPA 79 is, it is for permanently installed equipment and wiring. But the requirements in 110.26(A) would still apply.
