I've come across a situation where I need to run 3?" EMT across a jb and am wondering how close is too close.
An existing 10"W x14"H x4"D jb is mounted to a block wall as high as possible, abutting building steel. Customer wants all new conduits kept as high as possible as well because this is a warehouse with forklift traffic. My new 3?" EMT, because of many constraints, needs to cross the jb where it would somewhat block the bottom 4" of the 14" dimension. The new run will have a 10" gap between the conduit and the face of the jb. Space will not allow me to offset over the jb, but if push came to shove I could offset below it. Offsetting below it will force someone to set a ladder against the 3?" EMT to gain access to the jb, but crossing the jb will allow a ladder to properly rest against the wall.
Does anyone see a code violation here? At what point are you too close for accessibility?
Thanks.
