I have an interesting question that came up with some vendors equipment. It is a small wall mounted industrial control panel with a rotary disconnect operator mounted through the side. The question came up if there was a required distance between disconnect operator and an adjacent panel. My interpretation is that since the actual electrical disconnect is in the control panel and the door of the panel has the 110.26 required clearance that there is no specific clearance required for the operator. So the result was that enough space was needed to properly operate the disconnect and perform LOTO on it but 36" was not needed on the side.
I am interested if anyone knows of something I missed or could cite any code to the contrary.
