Article 314.71 (B) provides guidance for clearance in front of LB's (pull boxes) of over 600 Volts. Is there a corresponding article for clearance in front of LB's for under 600 Volts?

thanks,

314.71 deals with the size of the pull/junction boxes, see 314.29

110.26 Requires access and working space to be provided and maintained about all electrical equipment to permit ready and safe operation and maintenance of such equipment.

So IMHO this section requires enough room to open the LB and remove or pull in new conductors.

I agree with Raider, 'cept I would cite 314.29 - about boxes & conduit bodies..'shall be installed so that the wiring contained in them can be rendered accessible without removing any part of the building...'

As others have said, as long as the cover can be removed and conductors accessed you're good.

So what operable and/or maintaineable parts does an LB contain?

110.26 Spaces About Electrical Equipment. Access and working space shall be provided and maintained about all electrical equipment to permit ready and safe operation and maintenance of such equipment.

We are to permit ready and safe operation of all electrical equipment. That statement would include the raceway on either end of the LB, much less the operable screws, removable cover, and removable conductors inside.

Equipment is equipment, and the parent section makes no conditions about how much maintenance or how much space is required. (A) begins being more specific and restrictive, but 110.26 itself is wide open.

The whole section is written horribly, it's always subject to interpretation as to how to apply it.

Tortured argument, IMO. It is clear to me that the original requirements, based on voltage and current levels, was intended to provide service under energized conditions. Since energized service, as the result of NFPA 70E overreach, became nearly prohibited and it would be not required at all in the case of an LB, the clearance and accessibility requirement is way beyond what would/should be required front of an LB.
