What is the clearance required in front of controllers in elevator machine rooms. I have heard it is 3 ft. If this is correct, can you please give me the exact code #. Thanks

620.5 refers you to 110.26 and further gives exceptions. 110.26 gives a full explanatio0n of fron side and top clearances and 620.5 cites specific exemptio0ns.

3 feet is only partially correct as it applies to voltages 150 and below. 151-600 requires some additional clearance depending upon conditions.

Re: Clearance requirement in elevator machine rooms

Would someone please answer in "inches" the clearances required in elevator machine rooms in font of mainlines, controllers, etc. Mainly need to know the CLEAR WIDTH required in front of equipment. Is it 30" and is that per individual equipment or can there be two autosafes or two mainlines in that 30" width. How is it measured" I do not have access to NEC book.

Thank you.
