Interesting situation:
We did a Dr's office 2500 sq ft stand alone building. I ran fire, burg, data, phone, audio and video and distrubution. There was an utility room for a headend. The Voice/Data/Video was installed on a hinged 48U space rack, fire panel and burg adjcent. Also a two way AES radio for burg and second communication path for the fire (actually AES fire radios can be stand alone for commercial fire, but I digress)
So 9 months go by and there has been phone line and radio comm failures and restore, with only a minute or two in between. I find that the POTS line is now a VOIP (verizon FiOS) and the radio is having intermittent signal losses. The fire panel monitors the radio for trouble and vice versa, so all the troubles get reported either way.
--------------------------------------------------------------
#1 the VOIP thing: There "router" or demarc box is labeled POTS for phone lines. The verizon people state, yes its POTS, no VOIP. How is that?
#2 There is now dual bifold doors installed for access to the rack and the panels. They built a closet around all the utilities including the MDP and a 42 space panel for the 200A electric. They are now using the room for other activities. WTH!!!! So, now they want the trouble to be fixed, at no cost because its under the 1 year warranty. Well, being the service manager, I calmly and firmly denied it and explained, because the closet, which was not there when we commissioned the systems, is causing the radio to lose signal occasionally, its not our fault. The solution is a higher gain antenna, but were not paying for it!!!! So, they said never mind then, we won't be adding an antenna.
I realize that I could report them to the Code enforcement, (I'm not a tattle-tale, this time), but since they understand we won't touch a thing in there until its safe, I'll wait until they get caught.
Oh and even if they removed the closet door, we still need to add a smoke in the closet for the FACP now. Don't get me started!!!!!
