Well since people always ask me how fast my street lights are moving, I'm going to ask you how fast your closet is walking! (j/k). I'm not sure if that was talk-to-text or a slip but it's a walk-in closet just like a walk-in cooler. :)

I believe the intent of the code would consider that within the space.

Does anyone have any information to the contrary?

Clearances around fixtures from clothes in a closet/storage/or shelving is for safety reasons -- are the prints recorded as a closet or dressing area?

Recess fixtures are not subject to clearances in a closet they are outside of the clearance space dimensions.

Dennis is correct. If you use recessed cans in a closet they need a protective lens. That has a tendency to cut down on the amount of light the can would usually provide. I generally use these in closets and they work great.

People can actually see the true colors of their clothes. Not such a big deal for most guys but the ladies like to be color coordinated :p :

Actually most mr-16 lamps have a protective lens in front of the light bulb which would eliminate a lens cover for recess cans -- the actual lamp is required to have a protective lens so that if the lamp breaks the hot filaments cannot fall onto clothes
