co/Smoke ararm recall

Just read in Consumer Reports (August 2008) that Maple Chase has recalled 280,000 FireX 10000 series carbon monoxide and 12000 Series combination alarms. Manufactured between 6/01/2007 and 2/01/2008

As a side bar, Firex and Kidde are now both owned by UTC Fire and Security, which might explain why certain Kidde and Firex models are now UL listed for interconnection.

Probably. I've always used Firex but after this recall I'm done with them. This is not the first time around for them with the CO-Smoke combo's being recalled. It happened a few years before this most recent one, and I got a few free 12000's to replace the bad ones I had installed last time.

I use the Kidde smokes and CO's.

I've always used Kidde, but for no special reason. I held Hanson Industries stock at one time, and they used to own Kidde. I think that's why that brand stuck in my head.

I like the way the CO's talk, FIRE, FIRE... I crack up every time....

I have never had any problems with Firex smokes, I have had good luck with BRK also.

For security, I use these talking sirens that say "You have violated an area protected by a security system. Please leave immediately". It makes me laugh that the voice says "please".
