Where would the CO detector need to be in the attached drawing?

I believe you need one within 10' of a bedroom I usually put them outside the bedroom? In this case I have a bathroom there. I plan to put a smoke in the rec rm and CO / smoke in the bedroom. The rest of the house does not have detectors because its old and this is a addition.

Please let me know a smoke in the rec rm and CO / smoke in the bedroom will suffice.

Here the AHJ requires 1 CO per level where burning of fuel is used for heating, cooking, or hot water. If all electric no CO required. For a typical 2 story home with a basement, usually put a combo in hall outside of Bedrooms, and they require a smoke in each bedroom. A combo on first floor and a combo in basement. Wired for interconnected use.

A smoke alarm is required in each bedroom & in the hall leading to the bedrooms. Also on each level.
A CO detector is required near the entrance to bedrooms. A CO detector can be installed high or low.
The building code requires smoke alarms & CO detector to be installed in areas required with additions or remodels.
It's possible you can use battery-powered smoke alarms in the existing areas.

You need one in the bedroom, and one between it (the bedroom "area") and the rest of the unit. (Sorry - I mean smokes)

When we built a bedroom/bathroom addition onto a house years ago, we also put one just inside the existing house (over the window opening that became the door) by drilling through the band joist. All interconnected, of course.

To add: To address the CO unit, I think it would be better outside the bedroom than in it. The important thing is that it be between any gas appliance and the sleeping area(s).

Per IRC 314.2 and 315.2 I would just install a combination smoke alarm CO detector in the bedroom only.

Please let me know a smoke in the rec rm and CO / smoke in the bedroom will suffice.
You have it backward.

Smoke detector in bedroom

CO/smoke in the approach to the bedroom, or adjacent to bedroom, depending how your AHJ enforces.

Also, you have to place them at least 3 feet from artificial air, such as HVAC, ceiling fans, attic fans, etc

Steam shower had me concerned that’s why I said bedroom only

This is from a municipality somewhere in Colorado. Not sure where in Colorado the OP is

It's typical of what I see here in Kansas City also

Looking closer, yep, I see 'propane' in the garage.

Since nobody asked, I think the tankless water heater should be closer to the points of use, like in the corner of the garage nearest the bath and kitchenette.

I also think the pathway to the closet through the bath will get tedious real quickly.
