I'd like to study in a code class but am weak in math, what would be good to start, maybe beginning algebra? Had it years ago in high school only. I get by as a helper but can't go beyond basic calculations and don't want to be just an installer forever. thanks for any advice.

There are a lot of basic calculations that require a basic manipulation of simple formulas. You should be comfortable with manipulating E=IR to I=E/R and working with fractions and decimals as a base. In other words, basic math is crucial in order to just get by. To excel, you need to pick up more. :)

You need to think where you want to be in the trade. A electrician doesn't really need to be able to do more than basic algebra. A engineer needs college level math, calc, trig and the list goes on to get a degree. You do need trig for complex conduit bending but it's going to be a rare thing. Most people do not want to pay for work of art conduit. Definetly learn basic algebra.
