Does anyone know off hand what year they eliminated new knob and tube installations from the code?

I just checked my 93 code 324-3 uses permitted "used only for extensions of existing installations"
I am looking for the code cycle they added that.
I only go back to the 1990 code.
Edit: Just checked the 1990 it is the same "used only for extensions of existing installations"

You said new K&T, you want to wire a new house with it, or extend an existing circuit with new K&T? Check out article 394. (2008)(2011)

I hate it when they change the style from one issue to the next.
I stand corrected. The language goes back to 1975.....

..........

So any house permitted before 1975 could have legally knob and tube.

As I stated, a house permitted tomorrow could legally be wired in K&T. Just because the NEC says it can't doesn't mean the NEC is adopted everywhere. There's no legal requirement to adopt the NEC, or for that matter, ANY wiring code.

In the 1971 NEC K&T was OK, and in the 1965 edition allowed concealed K&T in a area intended for public assembly w/ a capacity of less then 200 persons. (No 1968 edition at hand). there was a change removing permission to use K&T in theaters in '71. I threw that in because it's so strange that K&T was allowed for that purpose so "recently".

Well, that was 41 years ago!
