Has anyone taken the CMECP classes? Im curious if there are other similar classes offered or opinions of the class, I can't find anything online.
If your not familiar with it, these are 100 hours of classes and tests only offered to Master electricians to elevate their knowledge of the code. Completion of the program requires several exams and a 1 on 5 webinar of other CMECP's to graduate. It also has a yearly upkeep of videos much like the state required ceu's

Hmmm, I do not see the value. I already am a certified master electrician.
How many of the cmcep are there? What are the credentials of the company founder? I am asking the wrong person...I will see if I can email them.
Seems like a cetification ftom IAEI would be more appropiate

Seems to me the value would just be a resume builder. Your buying another title you can put under your name. Or if you need CPD credits its another source. Outside that I agree with Tom.

Seems like a great way for Mr. Abernathy to make some money, however unless your jurisdiction has a rule against it or actually has a separate "master" designation, any EC can call themselves a "master electrician" right now. That's what it says on my business card. The public doesn't understand the two mean the same thing. Most think "master" means you have some kind of superior knowledge or experience in electrical work over other EC's. I very much doubt "certified master anything" will differentiate you from plain old "master" in the public's mind (which includes GC's and anyone else who is not an electrician). Also the public does not care about the code. That's just the rules WE have to follow. They just care about getting the work they want done, done.

ETA: I think ongoing participation in this forum is what makes a person a master at the code. I'm certainly much better at since I joined.

From what it says on the page that Larry linked to this is a "certification" based on training started by Paul Abernathy. Besides the learning if you're looking to expand your certifications list one would need to know if being a CMECP graduate is worth anything. I know Paul from his time here on the forum but as far as CMECP I have never heard of it.

Mr.Abernathy is also the founder member of the Certified Master Electrical Code Professional® (CMECP®) program administered by Electrical Code Academy, Inc., a Texas Based Corporation.

My states master electrician test is hard, you end up taking electrician exam, admin exam and them masters. If I get time I will ask about the CMECP, how many have that certification. Since its a one of certification it may not be worth it

I have been debating on take the class also. I know going through Mike's classes helped a lot. Now I have been Reading Tom Henry's literature, that offers a different teaching method then Mikes, same will apply to Paul.
Listen to Paul's Pod cast and you can tell he is very savvy on the code.
Like other have stated its kind of a waist of money, to have the "Title". Though at least you will feel more confident, and you should learn more. That is what I am hoping for, if I take it.

If you want a better class of peer review without paying mr. abernathy hundreds and hundreds of dollars just hang out here and ask questions.

I found this forum when I was looking for a study guide for my journeyman's. What I learned here during that time and since has been better than any paid option I have ever found on the net or in person.

I took a Jeff Rodriguez class YEARS ago. It was an excellent class, once you get into the meat of it..

that being said, I comment on some things, read them all. I’ve learned more reading posts from this forum and going back and forth into my code book, then back to the forum.

I’ve often wondered how many “ahaa” moments a man can have. I have them often reading on this forum..

that being said, the CMECP seems like a big waste.
I’m in agreement with others here.

Incorrect Statement - Mr. Abernathy never worked for Mr. Holt. Mr. Abernathy appeared on Mr. Holts Videos as one of his guests for the 2008 NEC Cycle. Have a Nice Day and Yes, Mr. Holt has always had nice material.
