Hey guys. A friend of mine insists that aluminum seu is code compliant for penetration from meter to panel in house. I'm here to confirm. Can someone chime in whether it's true or not and if not, where is it used? Thanks.

What would make you think it would not be ? Is there a detail we are missing ?

Used to be around here, it was copper only beyond the meter base.

A local thing, not a code thing.

They wouldn't allow any aluminum conductors to terminate interior to a structure.

Unless there's a restriction by local codes, it's done all the time. Just to add - the length of SE cable between the meter enclosure and the MBP has to be "the shortest distance possible" enforceable by the AHJ. Sometimes that becomes a problem.

Per NEC with no amendments - the only thing that must be a short distance is the amount of service conductor that actually enters the building but even that has pretty vague requirement, it just says nearest the point of entry.

You could have meter on one side of the house and run service cable/conductors around on the outside and then enter on opposite side of the house and this is NEC compliant.

That's the key word. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
