A small town electrical inspector turned me down on an inspection of an office I wired because he said I roughed in a receptacle under a window. The receptacle is 12" off floor and the window starts about 36" off floor .Is this code and if so what section, Thanks

Re: Code Question

It is not a NEC violation, it could be a local code but I can not imagine why.

Many office buildings are all windows along the outside walls I guess this inspector would not allow any outlets at these locations.

Re: Code Question

It is a home office, attached to a garage, all the other plugs in there which number 15 are the same height. He only said the one under the window was in violation. The owner intends to put a small 110 volt window unit AC there, does he have to get an extension cord to run it now?

Re: Code Question

Ask the Inspector for the code article that your installation violates. If Ryan is right about it being related to an office environment, perhaps you could ask for a variance, in light of it being a home, and in light of the homeowner not being in need of the protection of ADA. Or, if the issue is that it is too low, do you still have the opportunity to raise it up 3 inches, or have you already removed it and allowed the wall to be covered up?
