Re: Code Search

I have a client that is designing their own tanning equipment for sale to salons. They have developed a prototype but they do not know if it "meets code". The question is now, what code does it need to meet?

Re: Code Search

If its a plug and cord connected device, then its not really under the scope of the NEC, but the AHJ can require it to be listed. See 90.7. I would do a search of the UL on line web site, see if there is a product standard for Tanning Beds.
This product should be listed to an appropiate standard.
If it is hardwired, it could be considered an appliance, under art 422. But the listing process is more appropiate to this product.

Re: Code Search

your client will be required to have the unit tested and ul listed to start with, the unit will also have to be tested and approved for health safety before they can sell the unit.

this item will be considered a health item due to its nature and may also fall under the Food & Drug Administration rules also.
