What code article would refer to products needing to be UL listed for the use? I have a customer that wants cheap cheap cheap fixtures mounted on his brick wall. In order to do this, I have to drill a hole for my EMT connector and thus violating the UL listing. I am trying to show him in the code that this is not a good idea and that he should purchase sconces designed for his needs.

Thanks everyone.

retrofit kits shall be listed.

UL not the only choice

What are you saying will get violated? You mentioned the lights were "cheap" which probably means they aren't listed anyway!
