Ok Thank You

Now Since I Have You? This Inspector Is Givin Me A Rash Of Crap Over The Section 406.4 (d) Reqirement.

With The Pass And Seymour Plastic Plate And Receptacles I Cant Get 90 Percent Of The Receptacles To Be Flush Or Projecting Thru Faceplate And Even When I Do The Entire Receptacle Still Isnt Flush... Just Near The Plate Screw. We Are Talking About 1/32" Or Less. If He Smooths His Finger Across The Receptacle And Feels Any Lip From The Pkate He Fails The Final In Spection.

I Have Ran 7-9 Electricians For 18 Yrs And Never Had This Problem. Also We Have Roughed 50 & Trimmed 38 Of These Houses Since October And Have A Rash Of Closings Coming Up For The Navy Residential Contractor Forest City. The "independant Inspectors" Are Called Mactec. I Quoted The Independant Because It Seem They Are In Cahoots With Forest City The Building Contractor And Maintenance For The Navys' Residential Housing And Great Lakes Navy Base In North Chicago Illinois.

I use Pass and Seymour all the time and I don't seem to have that problem. Are you tightening your screws so tight that the receptacle is going back into the wall. Your box should be set back no more than 1/4" for drywall per article 314.20. If they are set back further then you need to install an "add a depth" ring --It is a plastic or metal device that extends the box out to the surface of the sheetrock. If your receptacles are screwed gently to just touch the sheetrock you should not have this problem.

Your receptacle is set to deep. Try loosening the screws a touch, I will generally bend the ears of the device to keep it secure, (so the plate won't crack when inserting a plug) hope that helps...

If your looking for a base for your recepts, I use 1/4-20 nuts or wrap scrap wire around a screwdriver like a spring and cut into desired lengths and use like a bushing. This will stiffen your recept to the box. In addition, if your box is to far back .... what dennis said.

ARLINTON BE1 IS BEST BOX EXTENDER BUT THI ISNT

This reminds me. At my place there was cardboard stuffed behind the recept to push it forward so the recept would stick out from the cover plate. Don't do that as a remedy! :D

WE ALL KNOW HOW TO INSTALL THESE BUT THERE IS NO TOLERENCE WITH THESES PLATES. IF YOU PUT A PLATE ON TO THE DEVICE IN YOUR HAND THEY JUST BARELY SIT FLUSH WHICH THEY ARE DESIGNED TO. THE 32" TO 64" IS BARELY NOTICABLE TO THE EYE TIL YOU GET WITHIN 3' TO VIEW. ANY BOW OR IMPERFECTION IN THE DRYWALL AFFECTS THIS DEPTH OF FACE PLATE.THIS INSPECTOR IS CRAZY. I BELIEVE THEY CORRECTED THIS SECTION OF THE CODE IN 05' FOR PLASTIC PLATES? ANY BODY KNOW?
