Code stating Phone and CableTV must run parallel to power lines?

Is it true there is NESC code that overhead communication lines must run in proximity with power lines?

I would of thought that the further the distance from power lines, the less interference - the more desirable.

Reason I ask is because I had the telephone guy move his wire from the back of the house to back of garage (looks nicer and now I can't touch it by accident), and wanted the CableTV guy to do the same - he refused stating it was against Code and would only tighten the wire.

This might have been because of the bonding requirements. The cable and phone service must be bonded to the grounding electrode system. The phone guy might have been willing to ignore these requirements but the cable guy wasn?t.

Wouldn't this be covered under NEC 800?

Yes I believe so and I see no requirement to be run parallel just that if they are there must be 12" clearance between power and com. the gronding requirement is at point of entry of the stucture so if you were to take the line to the garage and then into the home there needs to be a grounding means at the piont of entry.

What code refers to the 12" of required clearance?

800.10(A)(4)
Clearance.
Supply service drops of 0?750 volts running above and parallel to communications service drops shall have a minimum separation of 300 mm (12 in.) at any point in the span, including the point of and at their attachment to the building, provided the nongrounded conductors are insulated and that a clearance of not less than 1.0 m (40 in.) is maintained between the two services at the pole.

'02 NEC (I really need to get an '05 NECH on CD)
This was really the only reference to 12" I was able to find.
