Where in the 2002 code book does it talk about using a 15 amp rated device on a 20 amp circuit. For an example the 20 amp circuit in your kitchen. You never see anyone use a 20 amp rated GFCI. Thank you for your time

Re: CODE

tacomafc,
Remember that a 15 GFCI is rated at 15 amps per yoke. That means 15 amps on top and 15 amps on the bottom of the recep..So feeding this on a 20 amp circuit is correct and OK.

Re: CODE

James,
I would agree that you can have a 15 amp duplex on a 20 amp circuit since it is technically two receptacles, as you stated, one on top and one on the bottom. I would disagree with your statement about 15 amps per yoke. A duplex receptacle has only one mounting yoke or strap. See Article 100 "Receptacle" definition.

Re: CODE

How about in a residentai application there is a counter top recep and a disposal swith all wired in 12 but the countertop man only cut one hole in the granite/corian/zodiac...I have terminated this dead end recep and the backfed swith in one box and installed a stack sw/recep after all the code does say that there will be a receptacle not a duplex receptacle.Ok I have used a 2
cable gfci and a dead ended switch loop.Yes it`s over filled by 1 wire in a cut in box but have never been challenged on it

Re: CODE

Was the granite listed as a box cover? :D

Why didn't you just pull the offending tile off and keep going? The tile guy screwed up, the tile guy can fix it. Big deal. It happens.

Re: CODE

Given the scenario you're putting forward, I'd assume you had time for this (as in, not being rushed). Why not pull the piece of granite down or call to have the tile guy fix his mistake? I'm sure if asked, the customer would rather have had a duplex and a switch in his expensive home, than that setup.

Just my opinion.
