coffee pot controller

We all know what happens when a coffee pot is left on with very little coffee in the pot. Eventually it burns off and leaves an undesireable smell, a stained pot, and wasted electricity.
I have been asked to come up with an economical, user freindly solution to a campus wide problem. Something that will automatically turn pots off when we forget.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Campus wide? Is this related to a college dormatory? UTSA? Trinity? SAC? Incarnate Word? Our Lady of the Lake? Can you tell I grew up in San Antonio (AHHS Class of 1971)? :D

Kidding aside, what is the "campus" aspect of this story? Do you need something that can be brought into each dorm room, for example?
 
Are you talking about a coffee maker or a hot-plate? I haven't seen a coffee maker that does not turn off for years.


(I mean I haven't seen one in years, not that it doesn't turn of for years. :wink:)

Thats perfect in my opinion. And for me 60 minutes is a stretch. After about 20 minutes after its brewed the coffee starts to loose its nose and eventually tuns into black, burnet tasting coffee and if you leave it on longer than that it starts to taste like cheap gas station coffee.
But in an office or work setting I would totally go with 45 to 60 min timer. Problem solved

A 15 min electronic timer The nice ones I usually use are decora style electronic and max 30 min with 5 buttons 5min 10 min 20min 30 min and off. cant burn cofee too bad in 30 min. I use them on hydrotub and heatlamp installs.
 
The problem described - and the word 'campus' makes this sound as if these are comercial coffee makers???? Like a bunnomatic. As mentioned I haven't seen a consumer item that did not have auto shut off either in quite some time.

I am not a big coffee drinker, but I bought a coffee maker a while back to have on hand for really cold days, and when guests that like coffee are over. Since I dont drink it regularly I bought a cheap one, the only control on it is an on/off button, It doesnt shut itself off. I would guess that most college students probably buy cheap coffee makers also due to being on tight budgets...

And a lot of them buy furniture and appliances from garage sales or places that specialize in buying stuff real cheap from graduating students and selling it semi-cheap to next years freshmen. So, I'd bet that a lot of dorm appliances are very old models of whatever was cheapest way back.:D
