Has anyone on the forum used the collection agency of Baker and Edwards?

Have a client that couldn't/didn't pay final draw and I enlisted them to collect in a no cure no pay contract. Well they didn't get the client to pay, but they say that he has a bank account that could cover the invoice.

Anyways, the rub is that they require a payment of $650 to pay the law firm they use. If they recover the payment then they can also recover the lawyer fees and interest. If they don't recover anything then I'm double screwed.......so I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with this company.

I used someone in Dallas that was a huge waste of time. They didn't collect anything. What is the amount of the debt?

Check out a BBB report on them.

This is a scam. a collection agency will buy a debt for pennies on the dollar and then collect what they can.Unless it is a large amount they will not go to court or use a law firm.I had one call and use the same script about a bank account and all they needed was $650.00 to proceed which I could get back in a judgement but with an unsecured debt your options are limited even getting a judgement does not mean you will get paid .

It's pretty much the same scam they use when fixing electronics. It cost's you $40 bucks to have them look at it and tell you it will cost $200 to fix a $100 item. Had a guy tell me one time that owned one of the shops that didn't charge the up front fee, that most of those shops never even looked at it, since they knew you wouldn't pay the $200 to fix a $100 item, they simply had to charge 10 people a day $40 and they were making pretty good money.

My old boss used a guy that charged 10% or 20% of the amount owed. If he didn't collect, he didn't get paid.

I'd be very interested in what those guys really did, if any thing, but I'll bet you're paying $650 for nothing.
