Can someone tell me the Nec code section and if you can use tape to color code 3 phase on #12 wire in flex

Thanks, I believe 210.5 applies as I’m asking about color coding phase a,b, c #12 wires not grounded conductor , with tape, I was told #12 you had to buy color coded wire and could not use tape

There are no restrictions on how you identify ungrounded conductors of any size. However, it must be done to match the label on the panel that is required by that code section. That is, if the label specifies the use of insulation to identify the ungrounded conductors as to their phase and voltage, you can't use colored tape for that purpose unless you modify the label.

Depends if the city/ county AHJ has adopted a color code rule.
In Tulsa there such a rule however was told there is not and not many follow it. In Tulsa you need to read the rule.
This is why there is misconception of the rule.
I have to deal with this daily.

Now in Wichita ks they have a color rule no mater what for anything other than single phase. A lot find this out the hard way. Even for nm cable. When done using a 208/120 voltages. Like in apartments( multifamily) and single phase from a three phase system.
