The electrical industry standard color code for insulated terminals is Red for #22-18, Blue for #16-14, and Yellow for #12-10. Is this an NEC Standard? I have been looking in the 2002 book and cannot find any reference. If not an NEC Standard, any ideas on where it derives from?

Re: Color Code?

This is possibly a NEMA standard for separating the different sizes. Sorting and selecting is easier.

Re: Color Code?

It could also be a manufacturing thing. A manufacturer could have started and the rest followed.
Thre is also no Code on the jacket color of NM wire, but all of the manufacturers seem to be using the same colors.

Re: Color Code?

The color coded nm is a manufacturers thing to allow the inspectors to identify what gauge wire is installed, not NEC but a great idea

Re: Color Code?

As far as the nec goes .The only color that must be identified is the ungrounded conductor, grounded conductors and the high leg of a 3 phase system ie:white green or bare and orange
