hey all,
Anyone familiar with NY contractor licensing? I know its' all local, just trying to do a little homework before I contact them directly. Seems pretty slack in the regulation arena, eh?
Thanks

I'm not familiar with Columbia County other than where it is, and judging from where it is I'd be surprised if the villages or townships in that county issued anything more involved than a dog license. Hudson, maybe, but I didn't even see a link to Code Enforcement on their web page. :)

The villages will probably issue building permits for new construction and major remodels, but I doubt they're going to want to hear about your rewiring projects and service work unless theyre being done on a registered historic property.

If there is no local licensing/permitting where you're working, it's basically your responsibility to hire an inspection agency to oversee your work and issue COCs.

It's a beautiful place to be, if that helps. What's bringing you there?

Again CE not knowing what your talking about. Contact the Fire department as they are the ones that handle the licenses. the 3 surrounding counties have areas that require a license including mine. To the north, Green County has a full county license. You are required to open a permit on all electrical work including re-wires.

Thanks
I'll check with the Fire Dept.
I have some friends out there that need a new service to the farm house, just curious about permits & licensing. Is there testing? Or is it basically a contractors' license? I wonder if there reciprocal with another states masters'?
