For some reason my co. has entered into the resi. market.
Question: are there now Combination AFCI / GFCI C/B's readily available at our suppliers and what are they costing?
Now that most all general porpoise outlets are required to be AFCI protected in residential applications such as in the kitchen, I believe it to be advantageous to install combination C/B's to comply.
Thanks in advance

Yes, they are called "dual purpose". At least that's what Eaton calls theirs.
They are only a couple dollars more than just an AFCI breaker.

I thought Florida was on the 2011 NEC? No AFCI required in kitchens.

Every municipality in FLA adopts new code cycles at different times. I wish we could all the AHJ's on the same page. In fact, many AHJ's will adopt portions of a new code effective immediately but yet not adopt the entire code. i.e.. AFCI protection and Tamper Proof Requirements.
It gets frustrating trying to remember what code cycle each municipality is enforcing.

how many afci's are required for a standard sized home?

In VA that would be 2, for bedroom outlets; we're on 2012 IRC. In this video, which I believe was shot in NM, there are 11 AFCI, half of which are possessed. :eek:hmy:

(fast forward to 3:15 in the video).

Welcome. Yes. ~$50ea. I agree.

Bold from tap-to-talk? Or intentional?

Bad enough having different codes in different jurisdictions, but "many AHJ's will adopt portions of a new code effective immediately but yet not adopt the entire code" would be really hard to keep up with I would think.

Interesting, I did not know that. I always thought Florida had uniform code adoption but apparently not.

Now, when you say these AHJ's will adopt portions of new codes, are they doing it on their own and enforcing their own preferences, or are these officially adopted changes?

Florida does have an odd system where municipalities can vary on the code, but I think officially they are 2011.

We've worked in Tallahasse, Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Gainesville, and their surrounding areas in the past year and all were 2011. It seems like the small surrounding towns is where you run into varying code cycles.

As for cost, the dual function breakers I've bought are the same cost as an AFI or GFI breaker.

One of my suppliers is only stocking dual-function, which is a hassle when you just need a GFI stab-on breaker.
