Commercial 1St Floor Residential 2nd Floor

I have a building I have to estimate a job for. It is a 2 story building. The first floor is a commercial space where I know I need to use MC wire. There will be an apartment on the 2nd floor with a separate entrance. Do I have to use MC wire in the apartment or is NM OK?

I would check with the building department and see how they classify the structure.

How do you know you have to use MC on the first floor?

Take a look at 334.10(3). Commercial doesn't always mean "no romex".

Thanks for the help, the code section quote straightened me out, I will check with the building dept. on classificaion too.

If it's steal stud construction I'd use MC anyways.. NM will get torn to ribbons even if you bushing it.

Never had that problem... and I would do whatever I was paid to do...(legal anyways)
