Is there a minimum number of receptacles required in a commercial building and is there a spacing requirement?

Re: commercial buildings

the answer is - one. but it is not a nec requirement.

coffee is a requirement for any kind of work.

a commercial establishment is a working environment.

coffee requires a coffee pot to make it in.

the coffee pot requires an outlet to plug into.

therefore, you must have at least one outlet in a comemrical establishment to service the coffee pot.

I gotta agree with Bob's analysis of the whole situation. Great logic, one receptacle next to the coffee pot it is. I wonder if that should be in the Code?

To Larry's list, we should add a receptacle near any HVAC equipment and a GFCI receptacle in any elevator pit.

What about a sign outlet. If it is accesible to pedestrians, it requires one circuit that supplies no other load. This could be a recepticale outlet.

Re: commercial buildings

Reminds me of a job that I bid. The guy who owned the building said I want you to place receptacles everywhere the code requires them. I said thats easy, they dont require any so you tell me where you want them. Well he thought I was being a wise guy and we got into it a little. Guess I should have told him they are required every 2' and charged him accordingly.
