Caller has question about disconnects on a commercial dishwasher...
HP is greater than 1/8. Heating is 15 kw. unsure if its integral with the dishwasher or separate which appears to create the problem.
His question is does this dishwasher count as a motor operated appliance ? Does it make a difference if the 15kw heat is integral or if it's only the motor (heating unit separate).
It appears if we do not count it as a motor operated appliance then his out-of-sight disconnect with lock is sufficient.
If it is a motor operated appliance then he needs the unit switch or a local disconnect.

We install disconnects for these units, often stainless steel too boot.

My understanding is there are required and considering how often these units get serviced it seems wise.

A dishwasher is a motor operated appliance and there are heaters in almost all dishwasher's. IMO, he needs a unit switch or a switch that is within sight.

I agree with Dennis. Unless it is less then 1/8 hp it is a motor operated appliance that requires local disconnect.

If you would happen to have a separate unit booster heater - it is not motor operated and could have locking provisions at the out of sight branch circuit device.
