I’m tired of working for “the man” and am venturing into the small business world. I’m about to quote my first job. Of course I’m a bit skeptical on what codes I will follow.
A client has a current repair garage 3 bay, no pits or hazardous locations. Just basic engine repair. The building currently has a 200amp 3 phase service with 2 disconnects. One feeds current building and I’m guessing one was for his future garage. Both 100amp. He has now installed a 2 bay 35-50 metal garage about 5 feet away 20 feet back. Only thing it’s for is storage and xtra space. He wants a handful of lights plugs 3 lifts 2 garage door openers. Gas heater. No water. I’m planning on using the second disconnect for the new garage. My questions are,
1. when I feed the new garage, can I just feed a main lug panel or am I in need of a separate disconnect? Then panel? Also if disconnect is needed can it be installed inside or have to be outside?
2. in bonding said panel/disconnect are ground rods needed? Or can I just hit building steel?
3. Do grounds connect to main building or new garage? Thanks in advance!!!!
