the duct is usually double walled, I usually run mine inside the space between the walls and exit through the curb. I wouldnt run it inside the duct, its hot and greasy, and a cleaning company has to power wash the inside of it ever few months...
after re-reading what I wrote, what I mean to say is to run the power up into the the bottom of the curb next to the duct (between the outside of the duct and inside of the curb) thats what I meant by double walled...
Thinking more of just standards exhausts:
Some manufactures are now including a rigid pipe in the metal apron of the roof plate and it's outside the duct space.
