How does a company just find out about jobs to estimate? It seems just finding out about them is some of the hardest things to break through.

In western Washington jobs are advertised in the Daily Journal of Commerce. Many cities, ports, school districts have small works rosters that you get listed on.

Look at Planhub.... it’s a website where GC’s post jobs for bid.

If you see something you want to go after, call the GC and discuss before sending a bid to let them know who you are what your capabilities are.

That said, be aware a lot of GC’s use that site to price shop their subs.

You should also try to get in touch with local GC estimators; find out what they have that might fit your skill set and see if they’ll give you a chance to bid.

Look at local architects website and look for opportunities to bid. Go to the pre-con meeting and leave your name and number on the sign-in sheet. You’ll likely get some ITB’s from it.

Once you can establish yourself as someone that can complete a project successfully you’ll start seeing more unsolicited ITB’s from your local GC base.
