Would it be acceptable to drop from the ceiling to a prep table using SO cord? At the point of attachment in ceiling I would have a threaded cover or box with a threaded wire basket type strain relief. And at the table I would have a two gang weather proof box with a strain relief and gfci receptacles. The power is for portable kitchen equipment.

I'm sure someone else will be along to help answer your question...............

Without a look see, I don't think your drop is a problem, but your hanging FS(FD) box is........

Check out box support.

314.24 is where to look.

The hubs of the box need to be identified as a means of supporting the box. Most of your aluminum "bell boxes" the hubs are not designed for box support, most of your malleable iron type FS boxes the hubs are designed for box support.
