It seems like the engineer is throwing in the towel on these plans for a commercial kitchen remodel:

"There are know issues with commercial foodservice appliances connected to GFCI receptacles....Recommend all circuits requiring GFCI protection be supplied with GFEP circuit breakers in lieu of GFCI receptacles."

I'm definitely sending in an RFI and will be really surprised if the AHJ allows this. Of course, some of these circuits will be under the hood, so they will need a GFEP with shunt-trip!!!

I guess well-made appliances are even more expensive than $300 breakers and shock injury lawsuits.

Ridiculous.

Tell the engineer to read the definition of both GFCI and GFEP, GFEP devices are not mentioned in 210.8(B) and are not code compliant for kitchen equipment.

Food service equipment can in fact work fine with GFCI protection.

Direct wired appliances wouldn't require GFCI either.

Does take away some conveniences if user wants to unplug and move out for cleaning or servicing.
