Where does the NEC define where a commercial kitchen stop and dining area begins when requiring GFCI circuits? The one I’m doing has a counter for separation which is open walk path on both sides.

I would think it should be apparent from the drawings. Without seeing them, I would guess that one side of the counter is kitchen and the other dining.

I agree the drawings should/might show separation but regardless, if the serving bar can be accessed while physically being in the kitchen itself then it could be considered part of the kitchen.

We GFI all dining room receptacles. Pretty much all restaurants I build specify that in the drawings anyway. Cheap insurance I guess.
