How do I size the service entrance for a small commercial laundromat with 10 washers, 12 gas dryers and a single phase / 120/240 service

Re: commercial laundromat service sizing.

I would suggest thinking about them on a busy sat night.Be ready to have all washers running and all dryers.

Chris

I have designed a number of small commercial laundromats. First, be sure that all washers and dryers are single phase. Many are three phase. Secondly, there is nothing that I know of that would allow you any diversity at all. The service ends up being the sum of all washers and dryers on at once. The Saturday night syndrome again.

I used to work for an electric utility, and the actual load that the local electric company will see turns out to be a fraction of what your service load calculates to be. I often design a 400 or 600 amp three phase service for a laundromat, and the utility will serve it with a 100 amp transformer bank.

Rest assured that they will have plenty of capacity for expansion.
