I have a bid for a laundry mat and just want to make sure that I am calculating the load and advising the customer correctly. Is there anything that in the code that allows me to use a demand factor for a commercial application? I'm pretty sure that is just for a dwelling.
Combined washer name plates is 225 amps, 120 volt gas dryers combined name plate is 466 amps. Total in just washer and dryer power is 691 amps. I would think that would fall in the continuous load category. 691a x 1.25 which would be 863 amps in just washer and dryers. Then have to factor in lighting, hvac, water heater, receptacles. Just want to make sure I am right with the total amperage of 863 amps in just the laundry equipment. There is currently a 400 amp panel and a 200 amp from the old restaurant. Any one experienced in laundry mat that could give some insight. Thanks!

28 washers, 36 dryers. I was thinking perhaps continuous load because it could be on for 3+ hours or more at a time. Not that I want to increase the total amperage

So 28 washers (8A, 120V) and 36 dryers (13A, 120V)? That's roughly 230A at 208 - 3ph. Should leave plenty of capacity on a 400A service for lighting, hvac, water heating, etc.

If a load is on for, say, 2 1/2 hours, how long would it have to be off before being on for another 2 1/2 hours for it not to be considered a continuous load?

So you have 400 amps and 200 amps of what.
System ? Voltage ?
Unless I missed it some where.
Then we can help with a better answer.
691 amps at 120 name plate
691*120= 82920 VA
So far I do not see an issue.
How many SQ ft is the building for a general lighting load (continuous)

So far still don't see an issue.

Most have vending machines
How many at what VA, use 1680 VA each.
Generally there's a office with four to six recpt outlets 180 VA each.
Sign circuit 1920 VA
HVAC load?
Air conditioner not required. No info no load.
Heat required, based on size of building. Motor load at name plate.
Largest motor @ 125%

No issues yet until more info is supplied.
