Commercial PV conduit

Hi,

I'm working on a PV system that's going on a large flat roof. The city fire department said that it wants the conductors on the roof to be covered somehow so firefighters and other personnel won't trip on them. They even suggested putting the conductors under the roof (???). Would anyone be able to refer to a method or product that I could use to fulfill their request?

Regards,
Andy

That sounds capricious to me. Ask to see the regulation you would be violating.

maybe little red flags, labels on conduit, upright UV resistant placards, some sort of obvious warning signs?

Is this because you are running conduit in a setback area or where it is not allowed?

One would think that putting those in setbacks or designated pathways would suffice.

One disadvantage is that it may raise the temperature adder for the low distance to the roof, thus raising the conductor size throughout.
I still think the OP should make the fire marshal quote the regulation he is trying to enforce. I see conduits, gas lines, condensate drip lines, etc., running all over flat rooftops all the time.
