Good Morning Forum

First time Posting Long Time in the Business. Looks like alot of good stuff on this forum. With that I Need a little help

This existing Store has 200 amp service. They want to go to a 300 amp service. I feel going to 300 amp will be supported by the existing service.
However the power company will have the last say.
The service for the shopping center is located on the outside of the building.( All Rain Tight )
There are 4 Main service switches that shut down the entire center. ( 6 switches is Code Max )
From the 400 or 800 amp switch. The existing services go into a 3 phase meter out to a 3 phase fused switch (125 amp Fuses) Out to a Main lug panel in the store.
Sounds Right

There is one service that made me scratch my head.
There is another Main Service switch . Out of the Load side of the Main Switch into a trough. They tap a 400 amp Trans S .
Also tap a another 3 Phase Meter Pan into a 125 amp Fused Disconnect.
Out of the top of the 400 amp trans S There is no fused disconnect. The conduit is run to a Main breaker Panel in the Store. (approx 100 feet Away )
So Feed trans S load sie 100 feet away to Main Breaker Panel

Finally the Question.

Can I tap and Feed my Trans S Cabinet . Come out of the Load Side Trans S and Feed 2-150 amp Main Breaker Panels. 150 feet away with 350 mcm.

Do I have to install a Rain Tight Fused Switch side by side. In turn installing Main Lug Panels

Which installation is right. I have a call into the inspector and I currently investigating

Just Seeing the Trans S with no fused switch made me second guess my self and think I could save 900 bucks materials

Hope I was descriptive enough

Thank You in Advance for any help you can provide

Welcome.

Got a one line?

Your description of "another Main Service switch" and what you want to do is a bit fuzzy.

No worries if you don't have a one line or cannot easily create one. A word description will do, just keep it to following format:

>Service conductor [set] description
>Not-considered-service-equipment equipment (such as standalone metering), if any...
>Service conductor [set] description (yes, perhaps redundant, but we're after specifics)
>Service equipment (elaborate on detail but be concise)
>Feeder conductor description
>Tansfer switch description; we'll assume connected to normal side UON; other supply irrelevant for now
>Feeder conductor description
>Store panelboard

If need be, change the order, but always follow the more basic format of equipment>wire> equipment>wire>equipment>wire>... etc.

Service

I try to post a one line shortly. And a little more than more detail in the mean time
there is an existing 4-400 amp fused switch off pad mount transformer.
One of the 400 Feeds fused switches feeds 3 meter pans. Than hits 3 fused 125 amp switches. Out to the stores to main lug panels.

I want to change one of the services. And install a 400 amp Trans S Switch.
Do I need to install a fused switch (300amp fuses) or can I come off lad side Trans S and run 150 feet and install 2- main breaker panels. 150 amp each

All of of the smaller services have 125 amp fused switches.
However one of the services someone installed a Tran s S switch
and run Parallel feeders off liar side of Tran s S to main breaker panels in store
They did not install a Fused switch.
I was looking to do the same.
However my thought was I would need a fused switch based on distance to store (150 feet)to protect the load side wires from Trans S

My tought is the other Tran s S slipped under radar ??

if not I would feed Trans S off 400 fused main service switch. And install main breaker panels.
Dies tve 400 fused main switch. Cover me

One thing we're going to have to ascertain in this before making any solid decision is the location of the service point, the POCO to consumer demarcation point. The reason this is so important is POCO's seldom permit meters to be located on the consumer side of consumer accessible equipment. Rarely do they permit it, but on occasion will "seal" consumer equipment to prevent consumer access even when the consumer owns the equipment and responsible for maintenance.

Perhaps someone more familiar with the working of your POCO in the area will join in the discussion... :happyyes:

This process is also to determine which disconnect is the service disconnecting means. It has a major effect on where you can locate a transfer switch and what type of you have to use.

Trans S Meter Cabinet

Trans S Meter Cabinet

A Trans S is a cabinet is were the power company installs there CT's for metering
The install in this situation. Out of the pad mount transformer feeds a Main fused disconnect switch. This fused switch feeds 2-3 stores.
The path for power is off main fused switch feeds Trans S meter Cabinet through trough. Than feed line load side Fused switch. Out to feed main lug panels in the store.
