Commercial vent hood

Possibly the most pertinent document is NFPA17A and not the NEC

Probably the Mechanical Code, for starters. Is it a grease hood (Type 1)? or is it for heat and/or steam (Type 2)? Your concern would be primarily the emergency shut down of equipment under the hood (only if electrical heating elements or cooking elements are used). The rest is just lights and fans.......possibly an interconnection of the exhaust and makeup air units, depending on the equipment (and your contract).
Check the temperature rating of conductors as required by the hood manufacturer, but this usually isn't a factor as most (if not all) of the wiring that is in high temperature sections has been done at the factory under thier listing.

Good luck!

I have never "Installed" a commecial hood - only connect them... usually a confluence of several trades. Mine being only the electrical and control end. While it may or may not be adopted in your area - take a look at NFPA 96. (Chapter 9) And as far as the NEC - I would also look at 410.10C as both codes would require specific lighting. Otherwise there can not really be much to be done IN the hood itself. But plenty for what is connected to, and under it. I can't remember which code requires equipment shut-down? Someone will cough it up soon...

Just about all Commercial hoods I see are custom fab... No listing as a whole.... Just listed components. (Asul - fans...)

Under the hood

The vent hood will be install sometime in the next few days depending on the weather. So far all I have seen is the box it comes in. As soon as I get a better look at it I'll let you know what all is involved. I will probally put pictures on my facebook page. If you want to find me and add me as a friend my name is Justin Woods and I live in Chillicothe OH. My email is jswoodselectrical@yahoo.com

Definitely you should start from:

Hoods, metal, stage switchboard, 520.24
Hoods, range, cord-and-plugconnected, 422.16(B)(4)
Hoods for commercial cooking, lighting in, 410.10(C)
Ducts or hoods, in, 410.10(C)
You also need to look for OCPD and disconnect means for motors and controlers: Article 430

or simply try to be more specific and I will help you.
